Nagpur’s daily traffic chaos may soon ease, thanks to a sweeping ₹25,567 crore Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) that promises a complete revamp of the city’s road infrastructure. Backed by Nagpur Metro and RITES, the project kicks off with 137.1 km of road widening, 156 km of new footpaths, 6 flyovers, and 3 ROBs/RUBs.
Phase 1 will see the expansion of 16.2 km of critical corridors, including NH-44 (ITI to Butibori) widened from 2 to 6 lanes, and Besa, Wathoda, and Reshimbagh roads scaled to 4 lanes. Simultaneously, pedestrian-friendly footpaths with 1.8m width and tabletop crossings will be laid across 156 km, strictly monitored to prevent encroachments.
Parking gets a smart fix, too — with four multilevel hubs in the pipeline, offering 1,700 ECS (equivalent car space). The Gokulpeth Market hub will hold 600 ECS, while Ganeshpeth and Mor Bhawan terminals will house 350 ECS each. On-street parking will be permitted on 27 stretches, while 4.05 km of key roads like West High Court Road will become no-parking zones.
Phase 2 brings 120.9 km of widening, targeting corridors like Hudkeshwar Road to ORR and MIDC Butibori to Samruddhi Interchange. Six flyovers — from RBI Square to Koradi Naka — and ROBs/RUBs at Ajni, Bhokara Road, and Ambe Nagar will ensure grade-separated traffic flow.
The plan also focuses on traffic diversion corridors, intersection upgrades, and signal synchronization to ease congestion.
With this integrated push, Nagpur is preparing to move faster, safer, and smarter — with a road network ready for 2054 and beyond.
