In a major development for commuters in North Nagpur, Maha Metro has announced the city’s first underground metro line as part of its Phase-III expansion. The 11.5 km corridor will connect Kasturchand Park to Koradi via Mankapur, bringing relief to thousands in Mankapur and Koradi areas.
This landmark project will begin from the existing Kasturchand Park station, where a new underground station will be built. Inspired by Delhi Metro’s Hauz Khas model, a multi-level interchange hub is also planned. The underground section will avoid dismantling existing flyovers in the Sadar area, ensuring minimal surface disruption.
From Mankapur, the corridor will rise as an elevated track heading towards Automotive Square, and continue along the Inner Ring Road to Rachana Ring Road Junction (Hingna). Except for Mankapur, all stations on this stretch are already operational, allowing faster completion and cost efficiency.
The Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) for Nagpur was unveiled on Sunday by Maha Metro MD Shravan Hardikar in the presence of CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The plan includes various new metro corridors, junction improvements, footpaths, BRTS, and traffic upgrades.
Interestingly, the earlier plan to connect Wadi MIDC has been scrapped in favour of Koradi
With approvals secured, tenders for DPR preparation will soon be invited. Once complete, Nagpur’s metro will span over 83 km, transforming its public transport landscape and linking its industrial belts directly to the city core.
