Nagpur city’s largest transport project is finally set to gain momentum. The long-delayed Multi-Modal Transport Hub near Nagpur Railway Station is moving from paper to reality, after the Urban Development Department cleared the land-use change that had kept the project stalled for years. The decision comes following stern observations by the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, which criticized the prolonged bureaucratic delays.
The ambitious project, which had been caught in legal and administrative hurdles for years, has now received a crucial push. The Urban Development Department granted formal approval for land-use change on July 28, paving the way for the project’s implementation. This clearance follows a joint proposal by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Indian Railways, and Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation to convert the land for transport-related facilities.
The Multi-Modal Transport Hub aims to connect Nagpur Railway Station with AIIMS Road and Wardha Road through an integrated transport system. This will benefit key city areas such as Udaanpul, Lohapur, Masres Chowk, and Mominpura, where residents and traders have long struggled with relocation issues and traffic congestion.
In its response to the court, the government stated that construction work would begin within the next three months. The High Court has also directed that the project be executed in a time-bound manner, ensuring that Nagpur residents will soon have access to a modern and unified transport network.
