The Education Department and the Aakanksha Foundation, under the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), are jointly running English medium schools in the city. The increasing popularity of these schools among parents and students has led to a rise in the number of institutions. This year, NMC is expanding the number of English medium schools to seven, with 287 classrooms and a capacity to accommodate 772 students for admission.
In the last academic session, six English medium schools were operational under the initiative, and the response from parents was overwhelming. A total of 825 applications were received against a capacity of 472 seats, showing a clear demand for quality English education in municipal schools.
The schools are equipped with modern classrooms and e-learning facilities, ensuring a comprehensive educational environment. They focus on providing free, high-quality English medium education, aiming to improve both the learning experience and academic performance of students from underprivileged sections.
The Aakanksha Foundation has been instrumental in the planning and execution of these English medium schools since 2021. The foundation assists with curriculum planning, teacher training, and management to ensure that NMC schools match the standards of private institutions. Plans are also in place to open one more English medium school soon.

NMC officials said that the initiative not only provides free English medium education but also ensures holistic development.
