The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur witnessed two separate snake sightings on Saturday, August 2, 2025, creating panic among patients and staff.
The first incident occurred around 2 PM in the hospital’s Paying Ward, where a 2-foot-long non-venomous Checkered Keelback (water snake) was found. Members of the Wildlife Welfare Society quickly responded and safely removed the reptile before releasing it into the wild.
Just an hour later, at 3 PM, another snake was spotted in Ward No. 5, designated for pediatric patients. The sighting caused commotion and fear as parents and visitors rushed to ensure the safety of the children. Society members Nitish Bhandakkar and Nikhil Jamnik promptly reached the ward and carefully captured the 3-foot-long non-venomous Checkered Keelback amid the crowd.
Both reptiles were later released into a nearby forest. Wildlife experts have advised the hospital administration to strengthen preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
