Heavy rains have once again exposed the poor condition of city roads, with 260 roads across Nagpur suffering damage. According to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), around 130 roads have been severely damaged due to waterlogging, while 135 more have developed cracks and potholes. Nearly 50% of the city’s roads are now in a critical state, causing inconvenience and posing risks to commuters.
The municipal authorities have estimated that repair and resurfacing works will require ₹14.46 crore. The focus areas for these repairs include Laxminagar, Dhantoli, and Mangalwari zones, where the damage is most widespread. Officials stated that the deterioration is primarily due to continuous rainfall, poor drainage, and earlier substandard roadwork.
With the monsoon still active, the civic body has admitted that temporary repairs may have to be undertaken before a comprehensive resurfacing plan can be executed. Citizens have expressed frustration over recurring damage despite repeated expenditures, questioning the accountability of contractors and the quality of road construction in the city.
