In a shocking incident, an army jawan allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol created chaos in Nagardhan village late Saturday night. The intoxicated driver lost control of his car and rammed into pedestrians, injuring around 25 to 30 people. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
According to reports, the jawan, identified as Mahadev Vayachare (40) from Ramtek, is currently posted with the Indian Army in Assam and was visiting his native village of Suradevi. On Saturday night, he was reportedly driving his Hyundai i10 (MH 40 C 4377) under the influence of alcohol.
While passing through Sai Mandir and Durga Chowk in Nagardhan, he suddenly lost control of the vehicle, knocking down nearly 30 pedestrians and creating panic in the area. In an attempt to escape, his car first hit a tree near Hanuman Mandir, then toppled and finally fell into a roadside ditch.
The enraged villagers immediately dragged him out of the car and thrashed him. Police were informed, and the jawan was taken into custody. He was later shifted to Ramtek Government Hospital for primary treatment under police supervision.
The Ramtek police have confirmed the incident and said that PSI Ravindra Manekar is investigating the case further.
