In a shocking case of official fraud, a forged letter allegedly bearing the signature of a junior engineer from Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) was used to falsely validate an illegal construction, blocking a family’s access to their own home. The Jaripatka police have finally registered a case—a year after the crime surfaced—against four individuals, including an NMC health inspector.
The accused include Health Inspector Roshan Jambhulkar, businessmen Suresh Khemdani, Rajkumar Nehlani, and one Motwani. The fraud came to light when Roshan Sahare, a railway employee, discovered that his in-laws’ access road in Uppalwadi had been blocked by illegal construction initiated by Khemdani, who had recently bought the adjoining plot.
Sahare lodged complaints with both the police and NMC, but instead of taking action, the system turned on him—registering a threatening case against him based on Khemdani’s complaint. When police sought clarity from NMC, a suspicious letter dated 23 August 2024 arrived stating there was no access road to begin with. Sahare suspected foul play.
Further investigation revealed that the signature on the letter, purportedly from junior engineer Banabakode, was forged. Banabakode outright denied issuing or signing such a letter. It was also confirmed that Khemdani had indeed obstructed the legal pathway. The fake document was allegedly facilitated by Health Inspector Jambhulkar.
Sources suggest this is not an isolated case. Multiple illegal constructions in Jaripatka have been allegedly “regularized” using forged documents with help from corrupt NMC insiders. The current FIR exposes a deep nexus within the civic body and is expected to spark wider scrutiny into construction frauds.
