Nagpur’s recently unveiled Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP) 2025, drafted by RITES for Maha Metro and the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), is drawing flak for what many are calling “a grave injustice” to key localities—Wadi, Dattawadi, Ring Road, Besa, and Beltarodi.
Despite being among the city’s fastest-growing and heavily congested zones, these areas have either been completely excluded from metro planning or downgraded to slow-moving electric trolley buses.
As per CMP 2018 and 2025:
Ring Road’s high-potential stretch from Mankapur Square to Rachana Ring Road via Chhatrapati Square was ideal for Metro Phase III. Instead, NMC has proposed trolley buses—an inferior, traffic-prone option.
Vasudev Nagar to Dattawadi, initially found viable for a metro line, was abruptly dropped without justification.
Besa and Beltarodi, rapidly urbanizing suburbs, find no mention at all—neither metro nor trolley connectivity has been proposed.
Frustrated citizens are calling out Maha Metro, NMC, and RITES for neglecting long-term mobility needs in key zones. “These omissions mean thousands will remain vehicle-dependent for decades,” said one resident.
With CMP 2025 still in the draft stage, affected residents are mobilizing to demand fair connectivity—including new metro lines to Koradi, Dattawadi, and Ring Road, and trolley routes linking Sitabuldi to Besa, Dighori, and beyond.
Public participation may be the only route to course correction.
