The Indian Army has strongly refuted certain misleading media reports and social media posts claiming that a “drunk Army officer rammed his car into 30 people in Nagpur and was thrashed by locals.” Following a detailed investigation in coordination with the local police, the Army clarified that the incident was falsely reported and no civilians were injured.
The incident in question took place on 03 August 2025 at approximately 6:30 PM in Nagardhan, District Nagpur. As per the clarification, Havildar Harsh Pal Mahadev Waghmare, a resident of Ramtek and currently deployed in the North East, was on leave and returning from a relative’s house when he had a minor altercation with a few locals over parking. He was subsequently chased by four individuals. In an attempt to get away from the miscreants, his car struck a tree.
The Army stated that the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) was then forcibly pulled out of his vehicle, assaulted by the four individuals, and his car was damaged and pushed into a roadside drain. No civilian injuries were reported during the incident.
Havildar Waghmare has since lodged an FIR against the attackers at Ramtek Police Station on 04 August 2025. The details of the case have been verified by the Ramtek Police and corroborated by the Superintendent of Police (Rural), Nagpur. The Local Military Authority is closely coordinating with the police to ensure a swift and fair resolution, and all necessary assistance is being provided to the NCO.
The Indian Army has condemned the circulation of sensational and false reports, calling them a deliberate attempt to tarnish its reputation and create unnecessary public mistrust. The Army has urged media houses and social media users to verify facts before publishing or sharing such sensitive news.
