Nagpur is brimming with patriotic fervour as the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), in its Amrit Mahotsav year, launches an extensive schedule of cultural, sports, and public engagement activities under the Central Government’s Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. The celebrations began in high gear on Friday with a Tiranga Bike Rally and will continue till August 15, turning the city into a vibrant, tricolour-themed celebration zone.
The rally, flagged off from NMC headquarters by Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, saw Additional Commissioners Vusmana Pant, Vaishnavi B., and Ajay Charathankar, along with senior officials like Chief Fire Officer Tushar Barahate and Deputy Commissioners Milind Mesharam and Ganesh Rathod, ride through key junctions — Vidhan Sabha Chowk, Samvidhan Chowk, Zero Mile, Sitabuldi, Maharashtra Bank Chowk, Jhansi Rani Square, Alankar Square, Shankar Nagar Square, Law College Square, Mohammed Rafi Square, Ladies Club Square, Ravi Bhavan, and SBI Bank Office — before concluding at the District Collector’s Office. Along the way, citizens joined in, waving flags and chanting “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”.
In the coming days, the city’s landmarks — Vivekananda Smarak, Ambazari, Sakkardara flyover, Samvidhan Chowk, Freedom Park, Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Yeshwant Stadium, Metro stations, and Vidhan Bhavan — will be adorned with tricolour lighting and patriotic decorations. Self-help groups will sell and distribute flags from all zonal offices to encourage household participation.
Event Highlights:
Aug 10: Tiranga Cultural Programmes in schools, colleges, and cultural halls featuring patriotic plays, dance performances, poetry recitals, and the Ministry of Culture’s official “Tiranga Geet.”
Aug 11: Tiranga Canvas at Freedom Park, Zero Mile — citizens can write inspirational patriotic messages and slogans.
Aug 12: Tiranga Marathon from Ramgiri in Civil Lines; Tiranga Tribute at Morris College honouring freedom fighters, Veer Naris (war widows), and serving defence personnel, with garlanding ceremonies, speeches, and felicitation awards.
