A massive traffic jam brought vehicular movement to a near standstill on Wardha Road near Khapri late Sunday night. The congestion stretched for several kilometres, with long queues of cars, buses, and heavy trucks inching forward at a painfully slow pace.
According to motorists stuck in the jam, the bottleneck started building up around the Khapri tollworsened by a mix of heavy cargo vehicles and weekend passenger traffic. Some lanes were reportedly blocked by slow-moving trucks and a breakdown incident, further adding to the gridlock.
The snarls affected both inbound and outbound traffic, causing delays for travellers heading towards the city and those moving towards Wardha and adjoining districts. Commuters reported being stuck for over 45 minutes to an hour, with no visible traffic police presence to regulate the flow in certain stretches.
Regular users of the route pointed out that this stretch near Khapri often sees heavy congestion during peak hours and holiday weekends, urging authorities to deploy more personnel and streamline toll operations to avoid such situations.
As of the latest update, traffic was slowly clearing, but a backlog of vehicles continued to move at a crawling pace.
