Nagpur is set to face a major water crisis on August 12, as the NMC and Orange City Water (OCW) announce a 24-hour supply halt for crucial AMRUT mission pipeline work.
From 10 a.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday, taps will run dry in 13 major water tank zones: Binaki (Existing, 1, and 2 OHT), Uppalwadi NASSUPR OHT, Indora (1 and 2 OHT), Bezonbagh OHT, Gamdoor DT, Jaswant DT, Chappal Karkhana DT, and Bastarwadi (1A, 1B, 2 OHT). Even after the supply resumes, low pressure may persist till evening.
The shutdown will connect new 900×900 mm and 800×700 mm feeder lines at Mohammad Rafi Chowk, replacing aging pipelines to strengthen Nagpur’s water backbone.
Officials urge residents to store enough water now. While this is pitched as an upgrade, the sudden blanket halt has sparked anger in affected areas. “They talk of better supply, but we get dry taps and late notices,” said one Indora resident.
With temperatures soaring and monsoon gaps already straining supply, this 24-hour shutdown will hit daily life hard — from drinking needs to hospital services.
Bottom line: Nagpur’s residents must prepare for a day of water scarcity, with officials promising a stronger supply network in return. But for many, the immediate question is simple: why now
