The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) administration has launched an online portal to grant permissions for public Ganesh mandals. The portal went live on Sunday, marking its “Shri Ganesh” (auspicious beginning), and received 12 applications on its very first day.
The concerned departments will process these applications and forward their recommendations. Within the next three days, if all three departments provide the necessary approvals, the concerned mandals will receive their permission certificates online. Even if the approval is granted after the festival begins, mandals will be able to download their certificates from the portal.
According to the NMC, on Sunday, several mandals registered and submitted their documents online. Once verified, recommendations from the traffic, police, and municipal departments will be uploaded, after which the final approval certificate will be issued.
No Fees for Mandals
The NMC has announced that no charges will be levied on mandals for permission. However, government orders from August 1 require organisers to submit an affidavit ensuring no disruption to traffic or public order, in line with Supreme Court and Bombay High Court guidelines on the use of loudspeakers and other arrangements. A fee of ₹100 is being charged for the affidavit stamp paper.
Police Meeting with Mandals Tomorrow
The police department will hold a meeting with all mandal representatives tomorrow, August 12, at 11 am at Suresh Bhat Auditorium, Reshimbagh. The meeting will cover rules and guidelines for maintaining law and order, noise levels, traffic management, public safety, and security arrangements during the Ganesh festival.
Permission System
For public Ganesh mandals to get permissions easily, the municipal corporation has set up an online system in coordination with the traffic department and police. The new arrangement ensures that mandals need not visit multiple offices, saving time and effort. This move follows High Court orders instructing authorities to simplify and streamline the approval process for public celebrations.
