Nagpur: A tragic accident on the Nagpur–Jabalpur National Highway has left the city shocked—not just by the loss of life, but by the disturbing lack of humanity shown by passersby. On Sunday evening near Morfata, a 31-year-old woman was killed instantly after a speeding truck ran her over. Her husband, unable to get help despite repeated pleas, tied her body to his motorcycle and began the journey home.
The deceased, Gyarasi Amit Yadav, originally from Karanpur in Seoni district, Madhya Pradesh, had been living in Lonara near Koradi with her husband, Amit Bhura Yadav (35), for the past decade. The couple was on their way to Karanpur via Deolapar to celebrate Raksha Bandhan when tragedy struck.
Around 3:30 pm, as they passed through Morfata in Deolapar Police Station limits, a speeding Eicher truck approached from behind, clipped their motorcycle, and dragged Gyarasi under its wheels. She died on the spot.
Heavy rain was falling and traffic on the highway was steady, but no motorist stopped to offer assistance. Desperate, Amit secured his wife’s lifeless body to the back of his two-wheeler and set off towards Koradi.
Highway police were alerted and attempted to intercept him. Overwhelmed and frightened, he did not stop until officers finally blocked his path. The police took custody of the body and sent it for post-mortem at Mayo Hospital in Nagpur.
Koradi Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Shendkar confirmed that the investigation will now be handled by Deolapar Police.
