Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has announced that all slaughterhouses and meat shops in the city will remain closed on Friday, August 15, 2025, on the occasion of Independence Day and Shri Krishna Janmashtami (Janmotsav).
The directive has been issued by the Cattle Pound Management Department (Animal Husbandry Service Branch) in accordance with the Maharashtra Government’s GR No. 208/26/CR-31/18/11/90, dated April 22, 1989, and the Municipal Commissioner’s order dated August 3, 2018.
According to the order, the closure will apply to all municipal slaughterhouses and retail meat outlets, including mutton and chicken shops, across Nagpur city limits.
The NMC stated that this decision is part of its policy to close slaughterhouses and meat outlets on important national and religious occasions to maintain public sentiments.
The civic body has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the order, including fines and other legal measures.
