The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Thursday came down heavily on the state government, staging a fiery protest at Samvidhan Square against what they called a “shameful betrayal” of women beneficiaries in the flagship Ladki Bahin scheme.
Led by BSP district president Yogesh Lanjewar, protestors accused the ruling party of using women for votes and then abandoning them once in power. “During the elections, they called every woman their ‘sister’ — now, have these sisters suddenly become step-sisters?” leaders roared, condemning the mass disqualification of hundreds of women from the scheme.
Placards, slogans, and sharp speeches painted the government as opportunistic and deceitful, with participants demanding immediate reinstatement of all excluded beneficiaries. Protesters warned that any delay would spark statewide agitation.
A memorandum of demands, handed over to the Chief Minister via the District Collector, called for the complete reversal of the disqualification orders. The BSP insisted that the scheme must be implemented without bias, manipulation, or political filtering — exactly as it was promised to the people.
Senior leaders including Mangesh Thakre, Uttam Shevde, Ajay Uke, Kavita Landge, Maya Uke, Sudhakar Khandekar, Chandrashekhar Kamble, Vimal Ingle, Tara Ganveer, Ranjana Dongre, Adil Khan, Manoj Gajbhiye, Sanjay Jaiswal, Sandeep Koche, Ankit Thool, Nitin Wanjari, Rakesh Sahare, Sanjay Tembhurne, Vilas Nagdevte, Shobha Ambade, Vandev Lanjewar, and Baban Wasnik stood in solidarity.
The Ladki Bahin scheme, once showcased as a bold step for women’s empowerment, is now — in the eyes of the opposition — a symbol of political betrayal and a glaring reminder that promises made on the campaign trail often dissolve in the corridors of power.
