According to reports, contract workers Sachin Bhagat and Devaji Kubde, along with Mahagenco employee Bhavesh Sontakke, were engaged in maintenance work near the FD fan in the ESP room around 2:15 pm. During this time, a 6.6 kV power line tripped, leading to a flashover. As a result, Sachin Bhagat and Devaji Kubde suffered critical burn injuries to their faces and bodies. They were immediately rushed to a private hospital in Nagpur for treatment. Doctors confirmed that both sustained severe burn injuries and remain in critical condition.
Chief Engineer Girish Kumar stated that all necessary advanced medical facilities are being provided to the injured employees. He also assured that safety measures are being reviewed thoroughly, and senior officials have launched a probe into the incident. Local leaders have demanded strict action against those found responsible.
Following the flashover, strict security arrangements were put in place around the accident site. Entry into the power plant premises has been restricted, and photography or videography has been strictly prohibited.
A flashover is a sudden electric discharge or fire caused by excessive current, resulting in an explosive spread of flames. It is considered a highly dangerous electrical fault that can damage equipment and endanger human life.
Questions are now being raised over responsibility for the incident at the Khaparkheda plant. Sources indicate that permission had been sought from the electrical maintenance department for the maintenance activity. However, whether safety protocols were fully followed is now under investigation. The matter is being probed by higher authorities, and accountability is expected to be fixed soon.
Chief Engineer Girish Kumar reiterated: “The injured employees are receiving high-quality medical treatment. Their condition is currently reported to be stable.”
