Anand Roy of Chhatisgarh won the title of 5th Nagpur Below 1700 FIDE Rating Chess Tournament organised by Kalpana Prakash Welfare Foundation, G.H.Raisoni Sports and Welfare Foundation and SG Realty. The Prizes for the event were sponsored by M/s. SG Realty. The tournament was recognised by the Chess Association Nagpur, Maharashtra Chess Association, All India Chess Federation and FIDE.
Anand Roy with 8 ½ points out of 9 rounds remained unbeaten won the title with half point more than the rest. Chadrashekhar Sable of Nagpur who was leading the table at the end of Sixth Round finished Second with 8 points. Yuval Sunil Mohurle of Nagpur also scored 8 points but was declared third on the basis of Tie Break Scores.
Total Prize fund of Rs.3,00,000/- was at stake which included winner prize of Rs. 50000/-. In all 617 players participated in the event which included 264 internationally rated players, 56 Veteran participants and 92 Female participants. 2020 born Niharika Shrikant Zade(Girl participant) & Lokesh Gaur (Boy Participant) were the youngest participants while 1945 born Sardar Surendra was the oldest player of the event.
Anand Roy got richer by Rs. 50000/- as the Winners Prize alongwith a glittering trophy. Chandrashekhar Sable got the Runners up trophy and Rs. 30000/- as Cash Prize. Yuval Sunil Mohurle got Rs. 25000/- as Cash Prize. Apart from Cash Prizes to Top 20 winners, prizes were distributed to Best unrated player, Best Veteran Player(50+ and 60+) and Best Rating Categories. Trophies were awarded to the Best Under-7, 9,11,13,15, 17 & 19 age group winners. The Organiser also announced the additional trophies to the Special Abled participants of the event as a mark of the respect to the efforts taken by them to participate in the event.
