New Delhi: The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee has announced India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025, with Shubman Gill making a comeback as vice-captain. The 25-year-old opener, who last played a T20I in July 2024, will return to the top of the order alongside captain Suryakumar Yadav leading the side.
Gill, rested from recent bilateral series, forced his way back on the back of consistent form across formats, including 650 runs in IPL 2025. His return, however, raises questions over Sanju Samson’s place in the XI, despite his successful partnership with Abhishek Sharma, who both retained their squad spots.
Notably, there is no place for Shreyas Iyer or Yashasvi Jaiswal in the main squad. While Iyer misses out despite his IPL form, Jaiswal finds himself among the standbys alongside Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel.
On the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah returns after confirming his availability and will spearhead the attack with Arshdeep Singh, who has steadily grown into a key T20I bowler.
India Asia Cup 2025 squad:
Shubman Gill (vc), Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav (capt), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Jitesh Sharma, Varun Chakaravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, Rinku Singh.
Standbys: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel.
