One of the busiest routes in the city, Manewada Square, has turned into a daily nightmare for commuters due to severe traffic congestion. Every day, long queues of vehicles can be seen at this junction, but instead of controlling the situation, traffic police are reportedly more engaged in issuing challans, leaving citizens to suffer in chaos.
According to local residents, during peak hours, vehicles pile up on both sides, and the square turns into a mess of honking and gridlock. The absence of proper traffic management only worsens the situation. Rickshaws often create additional problems by halting in the middle of the road to pick up passengers, leading to long traffic jams. Heavy vehicles also worsen congestion by blocking one side of the road.
Despite being one of the city’s major intersections, the traffic signal system here remains ineffective. In many cases, the signals remain off, forcing manual intervention, but officers on duty allegedly focus on penalizing motorists rather than ensuring smooth traffic flow.
Rickshaws line up on both sides of the road, waiting for passengers, and in doing so, block moving traffic. Even when signaled to move, many ignore instructions and remain stationed. This results in cars, two-wheelers, and buses being stuck for long durations. Citizens allege that this indiscipline is left unchecked, further fueling chaos.
The situation at Manewada Square has reached such a point that proper manual handling of traffic has become essential. Locals have demanded that traffic police prioritize ensuring smooth vehicle flow instead of merely focusing on challans.
Until strict discipline is maintained among drivers and proper arrangements are put in place, commuters fear that Manewada Square will continue to remain a hotspot of traffic mismanagement.
