Highlighting the worsening pothole crisis in Nagpur city, the Congress on Monday staged an aggressive protest outside the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) headquarters. Led by Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Ketan Vikas Thakre, the city unit organized a unique “Pothole Exhibition” to draw attention to the civic body’s failure to repair damaged roads.
Large flex boards displaying photographs of potholes from major and internal roads were installed at the protest site. Significantly, Congress workers presented GPS-tagged evidence of pothole locations to NMC officials, marking the first time such proof was submitted in a civic protest.
Chanting satirical slogans like “Nagpur, don’t you trust the NMC?” protesters mocked the administration’s inaction. Police attempted to block demonstrators with barricades, but workers climbed over them, intensifying the agitation.
Later, Thakre led a delegation to meet the Municipal Commissioner and submitted a memorandum along with the GPS-based data. The Congress has issued an eight-day ultimatum for pothole repairs, warning of escalated protests if no action is taken.
Speaking at the protest, Ketan Thakre said, “The pothole problem has become a life-threatening issue for Nagpur citizens. Accidents are increasing, and public health is at risk. Instead of hiding behind paperwork and statistics, the NMC must act immediately. If repairs are not completed within eight days, Congress will intensify its agitation. If negligence continues, officials’ photos will be displayed inside the potholes themselves.”
The protest drew widespread participation from city Congress workers, with strong turnout and symbolic demonstrations gaining attention from both local and regional media outlets.
