Nagpur: The Nagpur Police have issued a strict directive warning citizens against feeding stray dogs on roads or in public places without prior approval. The order, released by Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, clearly states that legal action will be taken against individuals violating this rule.
The decision follows multiple complaints from residents regarding stray dogs causing nuisance and safety concerns, particularly affecting children and senior citizens in several parts of the city.
The notice, issued under Section 44 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, came into effect on August 25, 2025, and aims to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
According to the notification, citizens are allowed to feed stray dogs only at designated spots officially approved by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). Feeding dogs on roads, footpaths, or other public areas is strictly prohibited, and violators will face legal consequences.
