Nagpur: The Crime Branch Unit 5 arrested two men in separate late-night operations in Khaparkheda for illegally carrying firearms. Police seized two pistols, seven live cartridges, vehicles, and mobile phones, together valued at ₹4.57 lakh.
The first arrest took place around 11:30 pm on August 26, when police acting on a tip-off intercepted a suspect on Kamptee–Khaparkheda Road. The accused was identified as Zhangursing alias Vicky Sarnagate (27), resident of Mahajan Nagar, Parseoni, Nagpur. A search revealed a pistol with a magazine, two live cartridges, a two-wheeler, and a mobile phone worth ₹1.12 lakh.
In a follow-up operation around 1:30 am, police nabbed Sumeet Sanjay Sonawane (29), resident of Deolapar, Ramtek, Nagpur, near Bhani Gaon Square. His car was searched, leading to the recovery of another pistol, five live cartridges, a four-wheeler, and a mobile phone valued at ₹3.45 lakh.
Police said both accused were carrying the weapons with an intention to commit a cognizable offence and had violated prohibitory orders. Separate offences under the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act were registered at Khaparkheda Police Station.
The accused have been handed over to Khaparkheda Police for further investigation. The operation was conducted under the guidance of CP Ravindra Kumar Singal, Jt. CP Navinchandra Reddy, Addl. CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil, with active participation of PI Sandeep Buwa and his team.
