Nagpur is set for a civic upgrade with the state government sanctioning ₹18 crore under a special scheme to improve basic amenities in municipal areas. The funds will go towards building cement concrete (CC) roads and stormwater drains in Meje, Sonegaon, Bijli Colony, Shakti Nagar, Paradise Society and localities near the airport boundary—most of them falling within Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ Nagpur South-West constituency. The works will be executed by the Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT).
For years, residents here have battled poor infrastructure—waterlogged lanes in monsoon, pothole-ridden roads, and inadequate drainage. In colonies like Sonegaon and Bijli Colony, flooded streets force people to wade through knee-deep water, while vehicles routinely suffer damage. The new CC roads promise smoother, longer-lasting surfaces, and the planned drainage will help reduce the annual flooding menace.
Authorities have stressed that the projects must strictly serve public needs, avoid duplication with other schemes, and follow Nagpur’s development plan. Roads will be laid only after confirming that utility works such as pipelines or cables won’t require future digging. Before-and-after photos, third-party inspections, and Nagpur Collector’s oversight will ensure accountability and proper use of funds.
The move carries political weight as well. By targeting long-neglected clusters in his own constituency, CM Fadnavis signals both development intent and local responsiveness. While ₹18 crore may be modest against the city’s larger infrastructure gaps, residents see hope in better connectivity, safer commutes, and relief from flooding. Yet, as many caution, the real success will depend on transparent, timely execution—not just announcements.
