Nagpur, Aug 28 – Four lawyers from Nagpur — Adv Mehroz Ashraf Khan Pathan, Adv Raj Damodar Wakode, Adv Nandesh Shankarrao Deshpande, and Adv Rajneesh Ratnakar Vyas — have been appointed as Additional Justices of the Bombay High Court.
The appointments were confirmed on Wednesday after the Central Government approved the proposal forwarded by the Supreme Court Collegium a few days ago.
Adv Mehroz Khan Pathan currently serves as the state government’s counsel at the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court, while Adv Nandesh Deshpande holds the position of Deputy Solicitor General of India representing the Central Government. Adv Raj Wakode and Adv Rajneesh Vyas are engaged in private practice; Adv Wakode is also the standing counsel for Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) and MSEDCL.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended a total of 14 lawyers for appointment as Additional Justices. Apart from the four from Nagpur, the list includes Adv Sandesh Patil, Adv Shriram Sirsat, Adv Ranjitsinh Raja Bhosale, Adv Ashish Chavan, Adv Farhan Dubash, Adv Abasaheb Shinde, Adv Hiten Venegaonkar, Adv Amit Jamsandekar, Adv Vaishali Patil-Jadhav, and Adv Siddheshwar Thombre.
All four Nagpur-based lawyers bring extensive experience in the legal field. Adv Wakode has been practicing since 2004, Adv Deshpande since 1997, and Adv Vyas since 2001. Over the years, they have handled numerous constitutional, civil, and criminal matters with distinction, paving the way for their elevation to the bench.
