Nagpur: In a shocking case of confinement, Wadi police rescued two boys, aged 7 and 8, who had been locked inside their home in Lava Dhabha area for the past three years. The children, deprived of sunlight and social interaction, were discovered after an alert from Asha workers on August 22.
According to police, the boys had not stepped outside during this period and showed signs of weakness, poor speech, and lack of awareness about the outside world. They were even unable to drink milk properly, their father revealed.
Investigations found that the children’s mother had kept them confined. The father, an employee with the Gram Panchayat, admitted he knew about the situation but remained silent due to his wife’s abusive behavior.
Asha workers, who had been monitoring the household during their visits, grew suspicious as the woman avoided neighbors and acted oddly. On August 21, the father, along with the workers, approached Wadi police. Statements were recorded and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was informed.
The following day, police reached the house. Initially, the mother refused to open the door, but later complied after police warnings. Officers were shocked to see the boys in dirty clothes, weak, and unable to speak properly.
The children and their mother were shifted to Mayo Hospital with the help of social workers. Later, the mother was admitted to a Dhantoli hospital for treatment, while the boys were moved to the Government Children’s Home.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Rajesh Tatkare, with Woman PSI Nikit Kothe and the Wadi police team.
