This Ganeshotsav, Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has rolled out a unique initiative to make idol immersion both eco-friendly and convenient.
Along with 419 artificial ponds across the city, citizens can now bid farewell to Lord Ganesha from the comfort of their homes by calling a dedicated mobile immersion van. A total of 22 vans—two in each zone—have been deployed across Nagpur.
The service was inaugurated on Thursday (August 28) by Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Administrative Building.
Senior officials including Additional Commissioners Mrs. Vasumana Pant, Mrs. Vaishnavi B., and Mr. Ajay Charthanakar were present, along with zonal assistant commissioners and sanitation officers.
Citizens can book the service by calling their zonal officer a day in advance, providing address, Google location, date of immersion, and contact number.
The vans will then reach their doorstep to carry out the immersion in an eco-friendly manner.

Commissioner Chaudhari said this initiative blends tradition with responsibility. “A single phone call brings the immersion van to your doorstep. Citizens can now celebrate with devotion while protecting the environment,” he stated. With chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya” echoing, Nagpur has set an example of modern, eco-friendly celebrations where technology and tradition go hand in hand.
