Citizens of Nagpur gave a strong response to the civic body’s call for an eco-friendly Ganesh immersion this year.On
On the occasion of the one-and-a-half-day Ganeshotsav, devotees performed the immersion of Lord Ganesha at the 34 artificial lakes specially created by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC)
The atmosphere was charged with chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya” as devotees bid a heartfelt farewell. The arrangements were made by NMC’s Solid Waste Management Department, which set up artificial lakes across different zones.
These included three in Laxmi Nagar, seven in Dharampeth, two in Hanuman Nagar, and one each in Dhantoli, Nehru Nagar, and Satranjipura.
The initiative was aimed at reducing pollution in natural water bodies by providing safe alternatives for idol immersion. Apart from immersion, the civic body also spread the message of environmental protection.
Special “Nirmalya Kalash” (collection pots) were placed at every artificial lake for floral offerings and puja material. Citizens cooperated by depositing flowers in these pots instead of throwing them into the water.
The collected offerings will later be converted into compost, supporting recycling and cleanliness. The event turned into a festive yet responsible celebration, with participation from children, youth, and elders. Families came together not only to honor tradition but also to contribute towards a cleaner city.
NMC officials said the enthusiastic participation clearly showed that the eco-friendly initiative had been more successful this year, setting an example for future celebrations.
