While many officers stick to routine duty, Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Nanaware has smashed boundaries—scaling not one, but four of the world’s highest Himalayan peaks. A son of Solapur soil and now posted in Nagpur, Nanaware has proven that sheer grit can lift an ordinary constable to the extraordinary heights of Mount Everest, Makalu, Manaslu, and Lhotse.
Starting as a police constable in 2005, Nanaware cleared the MPSC exam in 2013 to become a Sub-Inspector. Serving in the Naxal-hit jungles of Gadchiroli, his endurance was forged in the toughest terrain. That toughness drove him to mountaineering—conquering Rakang Yatse-3 (6,250 m) in 2020, before moving on to Himalayan giants. In just two years, he planted the tricolour on Everest (8,848 m), Makalu (8,485 m), Manaslu (8,163 m), and most recently Lhotse (8,516 m). In every expedition, he stood as the only Indian in international teams.

Nanaware’s 9-year-old daughter Devayani has already trekked to Everest Base Camp, mirroring her father’s zeal. Backed by Police Commissioner Ravinder Singhal and senior officers, Nanaware now eyes the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.
