Electrical Safety Audit Planned for Major Civic Health Facilities in Nagpur The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) will, for the first time, carry out a city-wide electrical safety audit of its major hospitals and Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs). The step comes in response to increasing concerns about fire safety and the load on older buildings that now run high-powered medical equipment.
The audit will cover key institutions including Indira Gandhi Rugnalaya (IGR) Pachpaoli, Imamwada Isolation Hospital, Sadar Diagnostic Centre, and Prabhakar Rao Datke Diagnostic Centre in Mahal, along with UPHCs in Manewada, Nandanvan, Cotton Market, Kamgar Nagar, Hudkeshwar, Jagnath Budhwari, Gittikhadan, Babulkheda, and several others. Together, these centres provide healthcare services to lakhs of Nagpur residents every year.
Specialist teams will inspect wiring and panels, measure earth resistance, loop impedance, and load balance, and test Residual Current Devices (RCDs) across facilities. Thermal imaging cameras will be used to identify overheating risks in control panels. All checks will be carried out under the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) 2023 guidelines, ensuring compliance with national standards.
Officials said the audit will not only identify risks but also provide rectification plans for each hospital and UPHC. Once completed, the exercise will serve as a baseline for annual audits, integrating electrical safety into the routine management of civic healthcare facilities.
