Nagpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, in several Vidarbha districts over the next 24 hours. Nagpur, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Gondia are expected to witness intense showers, raising the risk of waterlogging and falling trees.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, as strong winds and continuous rain may disrupt normal life. District administrations have been asked to stay on standby for relief operations wherever needed.
An orange alert has been sounded for the ghat areas of Amravati district, where heavy downpours could affect road links and routine activities. The IMD has urged citizens to avoid non-essential travel in vulnerable zones and to remain updated with official advisories.
Disaster response units, including the NDRF and SDRF, have been placed on alert to ensure immediate assistance in case of emergencies. Farmers have been advised to secure their crops, while those residing near rivers and low-lying regions may be shifted to safer places if required.
Officials stressed that the next 24 hours will be critical, urging the public to strictly adhere to safety protocols. Monitoring is being carried out across Nagpur and adjoining districts, with the administration assuring that adequate measures are in place to handle any situation.
