This year’s Ganeshotsav is being celebrated with great enthusiasm. The time to bid farewell to Ganpati Bappa on Anant Chaturdashi is approaching. Bappa’s immersion is done amidst processions, DJs, and the beat of drums. However, it is very important to take care of electrical safety in this joyful atmosphere, as accidents are likely to occur due to electric wires, poles, and other electrical equipment. Therefore, MSEDCL has appealed to people to follow some important rules to prevent electrical accidents during the immersion procession and at the immersion site.
Precautions to be taken during the procession: Before starting the procession, thoroughly check the route decided by the Mandal. Get information about the electric poles, dangling wires, transformers, and open junction boxes on the road. If possible, use low-height vehicles that will not touch the electric wires.
Electrical equipment and decoration: Use high-quality and safe equipment for electrical decoration in the pandal and lighting in the procession. Do not use low-quality wires or connections. It is recommended to use only certified (ISI marked) materials. When using a generator or battery, keep them in a proper place and ensure their wires are safe. Avoid using any electrical equipment in water or on wet ground.
Cautions in the procession: If the generator is on a trolley in the procession, keep it at a safe distance from other vehicles. When approaching electric poles, transformers, or wires on the procession route, stop the loud music or the sound of drums. If the idol is too tall, keep volunteers ahead of the procession to maintain a safe distance from electric wires. They should have tools to give a warning. Inform every person participating in the procession about the rules of electrical safety.
Selection of immersion site: Immerse the idol in the artificial ponds designated by the administration. Stay away from electric poles, open switches, or other electrical equipment at the immersion site. Before stepping into a wet place or water, make sure there are no broken wires nearby.
While in water: Do not throw any electrical equipment or lighting material into the water with the idol during immersion. If you are going into the water for immersion, be careful that your body does not come in contact with any electric wires. Take off your mobile phone and other electronic devices before getting into the water.
Emergency situation: If you see any broken wires, open junction boxes, or sparks, immediately inform the police or MSEDCL. In such a case, stay at a safe distance from the place and warn others as well. If a person is electrocuted, do not touch them with any metal objects. Use a wooden stick or plastic objects to move them away from the electrical current. Call for immediate medical assistance.
Ganesha immersion is an important part of our culture and faith. A little care and awareness are enough to safely celebrate this festival. So that your joy is not dampened, participate in this ceremony with the mantra ‘Safety First’ in mind. MSEDCL has also appealed to celebrate this year’s Ganeshotsav completely safe from electrical accidents.
