The long-awaited Amravati Road flyover, stretching from the RTO to Futala Square, is finally ready for use — but like many other completed city bridges, its official inauguration date remains stuck in limbo. If all goes well, traffic may begin on the stretch soon after Ganesh immersion, though citizens are already restless after facing repeated delays.
Originally scheduled for completion in 2023, the project has dragged on for over a year and a half beyond deadline. Residents point out how other bridges like Sadar, Itarsi, and Pardi were thrown open to the public even before formal inaugurations, questioning why this 2.843-km flyover is being held back.
The flyover, to be named after Gyanayogi Dr. Shrikant Jichkar, runs from Bole Petrol Pump to Futala Square. Once open, it will spare commuters the daily grind of jams at Law College, Ravi Nagar, and Bharat Nagar squares. At present, the contractor is using generators for night lighting, and the bridge will be handed over to NMC after a year.
What’s Still Pending
Painting and signage installation.
Service road work near RTO office drain.
Culvert finishing at Ravi Nagar Square.
One-side service road completion at Futala end.
Despite load testing in July proving the bridge safe, authorities continue to delay its opening. Citizens argue this flyover is a basic traffic necessity, not a political showpiece, and demand immediate public access. “Stop waiting for photo-ops and let people use the bridge,” fumed one commuter stuck in daily jams.
