A Ganesh Visarjan procession in Nagpur turned tragic when a 25-year-old youth was crushed to death by a trailer truck near Koradi in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Ajay Laxman Yadav, a resident of Dharampeth, Sitabuldi. Police said Yadav was riding a Pulsar motorcycle (MH 31 FJ 3582) along with other members of his Ganesh mandal while heading towards Koradi Lake for the idol immersion. Around 12.30 am, while overtaking a trailer truck (RJ 47 GA 4326) near the flyover opposite Remedy Hospital, the truck driver allegedly drove recklessly and cut across Yadav’s two-wheeler.
Yadav fell on the road and came under the rear wheels of the heavy vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries. Locals rushed him to Mayo Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
On the complaint of his father, Laxman Jabbarsingh Yadav (50), Koradi police have registered a case against the truck driver, identified as Rajesh Gopal Chaudhary of Ajmer, Rajasthan, under relevant sections of the BNS and Motor Vehicles Act.
Police said further investigation is underway.
