Nagpur’s political map for the 2025 municipal elections is under fire. On Tuesday (Sept 9), a marathon public hearing on objections and suggestions to the draft prabhag (ward) structure was completed at the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) headquarters. The proceedings, held before Maharashtra Metro Managing Director Shravan Hardikar, the state-appointed authority, took place in the presence of NMC Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari.
The objections reflect the simmering discontent across the city. Of the 115 citizens and organizations who submitted representations, 60 raised boundary disputes, 16 demanded reorganisation ward-wise and assembly-wise, 25 flagged errors in locality names, and 7 challenged the reservation pattern. Notably, 15 objectors who had filed complaints did not appear for the hearing.
The session, which began at 11 a.m., stretched till 6:30 p.m., with citizens voicing concerns over how their neighborhoods had been carved, renamed, or reshuffled in the draft. From boundary redrawals to missing names and questionable reservations, residents accused the process of lacking transparency and fairness.
