Nagpur: The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) squad struck a major blow to the city’s drug network after arresting a 36-year-old man in Wathoda and seizing mephedrone (MD) powder valued at ₹5.9 lakh.
The raid was conducted in the early hours of September 11 between 2.30 am and 4 am near Rakesh Pan Palace on Umred Road. During routine patrolling, officers spotted a man moving suspiciously on a scooter without a registration plate. When searched in the presence of witnesses, police recovered 102 grams of mephedrone powder, a mobile phone, a debit card, and the two-wheeler.
The accused, identified as Rafiq Khan, a resident of Raut Nagar, Wathoda, already has serious cases registered against him, including murder (IPC 302) and robbery (IPC 392), along with other offences.
Two of his associates — Firoz Khan alias Haddi, wanted in connection with cases under Section 399, the Arms Act, and the Gambling Act, and Sajid alias Kaju, both residents of Mahendra Nagar — are absconding and being hunted by police.
A fresh case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act at Wathoda Police Station. The seized material has been handed over to the station for further investigation.
The operation was executed under the supervision of NDPS PI Gajanan Gulhane and his team.
