Violence erupted once again inside Nagpur Central Jail on Tuesday, highlighting repeated incidents of clashes among inmates. According to police sources, the latest fight involved notorious criminal Pravin Mahajan from Pune, who is lodged in the jail.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when an undertrial prisoner named Tawfiq Ishaq was filling water in a plastic bottle. During this time, another undertrial, identified as Yashpal Chadhha, arrived and allegedly pushed Tawfiq aside to fill his own bottle in a different style. This sparked a heated exchange, with Mahajan siding against Tawfiq. Soon, verbal abuse escalated into a physical assault, with Tawfiq being beaten up with kicks and punches.
When Tawfiq attempted to retaliate, he was allegedly attacked further by Mahajan and his supporters, who even threatened to kill him. The matter was brought under control only after the jail staff intervened. Tawfiq later lodged a formal complaint at Dhantoli Police Station. Following directives from senior officer Shandaar Annamalai Minj, a case was registered against the accused.
The jail authorities are under pressure once again to maintain strict security arrangements after repeated episodes of violence inside the premises.
