Nagpur witnessed a humid morning followed by an overcast sky, with sporadic showers through the afternoon and evening bringing much-needed relief.
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has sounded an alert for the city and several districts of Vidarbha, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next two days.
According to RMC officials, an upper air cyclonic circulation persisting over south Odisha and adjoining north coastal Andhra Pradesh has tilted southward. Meanwhile, the western end of the associated trough has shifted towards Gujarat, drawing moisture from both the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. These conditions have revived monsoon activity, paving the way for widespread rain.
All 11 districts of Vidarbha and parts of central Maharashtra are expected to receive moderate to heavy showers until September 15. In Nagpur, rains began after 11:30 am and continued intermittently through the afternoon, with the city recording 11 mm of rainfall by 5:30 pm. Relative humidity, which stood at 78% in the morning, climbed to 95% by evening, pushing the day’s maximum temperature down to 32.2°C.
Other districts also reported significant rainfall: Wardha (20 mm), Amravati (27 mm), Gondia (19 mm), Chandrapur (39 mm), Gadchiroli (30 mm), and Yavatmal (18.8 mm).
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, as unstable weather conditions are likely to persist over the coming days.
