Nagpur Book Club (NBC) will present Akashvani: A Century of Stories from All India Radio—an interactive, live book review experience—on September 14 at 4 pm at St Ursula School. The session will be led by authors Vikrant Pandeand Neelesh Kulkarni, based on their book of the same title.
The programme revisits the journey of All India Radio (AIR) over the past 100 years, highlighting its personalities, landmark programmes, and defining moments—from newsrooms and drama serials to film music, commentary, and community broadcasts.
Designed as a celebration of Indian radio rather than a traditional review, the 90-minute event will weave together live performances, nostalgic jingles, audio snippets, mini-skits, recreated sports commentaries, poetry, quizzes, and anecdotes, bringing alive a century of listening culture.
The session will be conducted by Dr Tejinder Singh Rawal, Founder of NBC, with RJ Tejal as compere. Audiences can also look forward to four themed interludes inspired by classic AIR programmes—Hawa Mahal, Binaca Geet Mala, Aaj ke Fankar, and Jai Mala.
Adding a local touch, the event will spotlight Nagpur’s contribution to Akashvani, recalling the work and memories of notable figures such as Kishan Sharma, Purushottam Darvekar, and Suresh Bhat.
The event is open to the public with free entry on a first-come, first-served basis.
