A fatal road accident on Koradi Road claimed the lives of a 15-year-old schoolgirl and her van driver on Friday morning, leaving the girl’s younger brother injured.
The victims have been identified as Sanvi Khobragade (15), a Class IX student of Bhavan’s School, Koradi, and Ritik Kanojiya (24), the driver of the school van and a resident of Sadar. Sanvi’s nine-year-old brother Viraj suffered lower-back injuries but is reported to be stable.
Police said the crash occurred around 8 a.m. when the Bhavan’s school van collided head-on with an empty Narayan Vidyalaya bus. The impact was severe, with the smaller vehicle bearing the brunt of the collision. Kanojiya was driving with the Khobragade siblings seated beside him.
Investigators noted that the Mankapur flyover has been closed for maintenance for the past two months, forcing heavy school and commuter traffic onto Koradi Road. Locals, who have repeatedly warned that the diversion has become accident-prone, expressed anger after the tragedy.
Kanojiya succumbed to his injuries by afternoon, while Sanvi died later in the evening. Residents allege that repeated appeals to reopen the flyover or improve traffic management were ignored by the authorities, resulting in what they call a preventable loss of innocent lives.
