The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has allotted 10 acres of land at the Bhandewadi dumping yard to set up a new solid waste processing facility under Bhoomi Green Pvt. Ltd. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary inspected the site on Saturday (Sept 13).
The project will process more than 500 metric tonnes of waste daily. Currently, Nagpur generates around 1,300 MT of waste every day, of which 800 MT is processed through the Subsidi project. With Bhoomi Green Pvt. Ltd. handling an additional 500 MT, the visible waste heaps at Bhandewadi are expected to reduce significantly, creating cleaner surroundings.
Bhoomi Green Pvt. Ltd. has been contracted for five years. The company will process the waste to produce organic fertilizer and RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel).
During the inspection, Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant, Assistant Commissioner Vikas Raibole, Chief Sanitation Officer Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, Executive Engineers Rajesh Dufare and Naresh Singhmazode, Consultant Mr. Jagtap, representatives from SusBDe (Sustainable Business Development) Company, Bhoomi Green Pvt. Ltd., Solid Waste Management Department official Rohidas Rathod, and other staff members were present.
The Pune-based Bhoomi Green Pvt. Ltd. will begin operations at full capacity from December this year. With both Subsidi and Bhoomi Green facilities combined, nearly 1,300 MT of waste generated daily will be processed.
Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary also visited the Subsidi integrated solid waste project, where 800 MT of waste is currently treated daily. He instructed officials to speed up waste processing and reduce the heaps of garbage lying in the area.
Tree Plantation Drive
On the occasion, Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary and Additional Commissioner Vasumana Pant carried out a tree plantation drive at the Bhandewadi site.
