Nagpur: Ganeshpeth police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly blackmailing a local trader and demanding ₹50 lakh, besides creating fake social media accounts to malign him and his wife. The accused has been identified as Shraddha Patil, who works as a solar panel installer.
According to police, the complainant, a 50-year-old spare-parts dealer from Jaripatka, had earlier engaged Patil to install solar panels at his residence. Later, Patil sought his help in securing additional installation contracts. When he failed to assist, she allegedly became hostile.
Investigators said Patil then created fake Facebook and Instagram profiles in the businessman’s name and uploaded objectionable posts and morphed photos involving him and his wife. The couple discovered the content after a friend alerted them to the links.
Police further stated that Patil later approached the trader’s shop in Ganeshpeth and demanded ₹50 lakh to stop posting defamatory material. Following the incident, the trader’s wife lodged a complaint.
Ganeshpeth police have booked Patil on charges of extortion, blackmail, defamation and outraging the modesty of a woman. She has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
