A portion of land belonging to Patwardhan High School in Mouza Sitabuldi has been cleared for transfer to Nagpur Metro. The parcel measures 163.712 square meters, carved out of a larger 7,434 square meter plot under Survey No. 303 (City Survey No. 1847). Earlier under the Revenue and Forest Department, the land will now be handed to the Urban Development Department for use by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-Metro).
Though modest in size, the parcel is strategically located at Sitabuldi, the city’s busiest interchange where both metro corridors meet. Officials said the transfer would ease construction, improve passenger circulation, and provide space for essential metro facilities. With thousands using the hub daily, availability of land is critical to ensure safe and efficient operations.
The order follows the 2017 state policy on government land transfers, which permits expedited handover of plots for vital public projects. Advance possession has been granted to Metro, while final classification will follow separately to maintain administrative compliance.
Nagpur Metro has already commissioned two corridors stretching over 40 kilometers. Sitabuldi interchange remains its focal point, connecting the north–south and east–west lines. The additional 163.712 square meters is expected to directly enhance operations and reduce crowding at the central hub.
Authorities emphasize that every incremental expansion supports sustainable urban growth. With lakhs of commuters relying on the metro annually, the Patwardhan High School land clearance underscores how even a small plot can significantly shape Nagpur’s mobility future.
