Traffic chaos has emerged on the Amravati Road near Dr. Shrikant Jichkar flyover at Wadi due to the incomplete service roads, forcing the closure of two newly-constructed underpasses since Saturday. Pedestrian paths were fully removed during the construction, but with service roads not ready, vehicles are being forced to take dangerous U-turns, creating risky situations for motorists.
On Friday evening, traffic was diverted after the inauguration of the new underpass, and barricades were installed. However, within 24 hours, the flyover traffic system collapsed, and the underpass had to be closed again.
If vehicular movement resumes on Sunday, motorists taking U-turns at the Boll Petrol Pump Chowk while heading towards Shankar Nagar are likely to face grave risks. Drivers are required to travel an additional 90 meters, making U-turns dangerous and confusing, especially at night. The absence of proper traffic signals and road safety measures has increased the chances of accidents.
Locals complain that incomplete service roads on both sides of the flyover have worsened the problem. In the absence of alternate routes, the heavy traffic flow is being diverted to the narrow stretches, creating jams and accidents. Authorities were expected to ensure complete road readiness before allowing traffic diversions, but negligence has left citizens in distress.
