After the tragic accident at Manakapur Chowk, where a 14-year-old student lost her life and eight others were injured, the issue of student safety in school transport has once again come into sharp focus. Taking the matter seriously, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) launched a city-wide inspection drive targeting school buses and vans.
During the campaign, 37 school buses were fined through e-challans, while six vehicles were seized for serious violations.
Authorities emphasized that student transport is highly sensitive and strict rules must be enforced. Despite clear regulations, many buses and vans continue to operate without valid fitness certificates and proper safety measures.
On September 12, a school bus accident further highlighted the urgency of these issues. In response, the RTO inspected 235 school buses and vans. Out of these, 39 were found to be non-compliant, and e-challans were issued. Six vehicles were seized on the spot, and a total of ?45,000 in fines was collected.
Officials confirmed that such safety inspections will continue across the city.
