As lakhs of followers of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar prepare to converge at Deekshabhoomi on October 2 for Dhamma Chakra Pravartan Din, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has swung into action to ensure hygiene, civic facilities, and seamless health services for devotees.
On Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Dr. Abhijeet Chaudhari, along with District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, personally inspected the entire Deekshabhoomi premises. They were joined by senior officials of the Ambedkar Memorial Committee, police, and NMC. Dr. Chaudhari instructed departments to prioritize cleanliness, uninterrupted water and electricity supply, and crowd management.
This year, arrangements will run from September 30 to October 4.
Key facilities include:
Water Supply: 120 taps, 7 tankers for food donation sites, and 5 Syntex tanks.
Sanitation: 650 staff working in three shifts, 200 garbage drums, 1,000 temporary toilets, 7 mobile toilets, and 60 cleaning staff supported by 4 jetting machines.
Safety & Lighting: 460 additional streetlights, 40 permanent and 8 temporary CCTV cameras, plus 10 generators for backup.
Transport: Dedicated NMC buses from Sitabuldi and Ajni railway stations, Mor Bhavan, Ganeshpeth bus stand, and to Dragon Palace.
Shelter & Health: Temporary mandaps for rest, municipal schools and government buildings as rain shelters, round-the-clock health centers and ambulances at key junctions.
With millions expected, officials promised round-the-clock monitoring. As Commissioner Chaudhari summed up: “Cleanliness and civic comfort will be our top priority for every devotee visiting Deekshabhoomi.”
