A 22-year-old college student was killed and two companions were seriously injured when a Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) electric bus collided with their two-wheeler near LAD College, Seminary Hills, on Wednesday evening. The crash sparked tension in the area, with locals pelting stones and shattering the bus windshield.

The deceased has been identified as Yash Venkata Panikar (22), a resident of Lalganj Mehndibagh, Sahabalwadi. His injured friends are Harsh Rajesh Moundekar (21) of Dahi Bazaar and Atul Ghanshyam Kapate (22) of Kumbharpura.

Police said the trio had gone for an afternoon ride, visiting Balodyan and later Futala Chowpatty. Around 5:30 p.m., while returning home on their scooter, they were struck head-on by an NMC e-bus outside LAD College. All three sustained critical injuries and were rushed to hospital, where Yash was declared dead.
Following the accident, bystanders threw stones at the bus in anger, breaking its glass panels. Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the driver’s role and other circumstances surrounding the incident.
