Ambazari police on September 18 busted an illegal hookah operation at Publico Café on Ambazari Bypass Road, seizing tobacco products and equipment valued at ₹80,560.
Owner Nikhil Pradeep Gawande (25), a resident of Ramnagar, Telangkhedi, was caught serving prohibited tobacco-based hookah to customers for profit. Officers recovered two hookah pots, various flavored tobaccos, three mobile phones and related material.
A case has been registered at Ambazari Police Station under Section 274 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita along with Sections 5, 6, 7 and 20 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003.
The action was carried out under the guidance of DCP (Zone 2) Nityanand Jha, ACP (Sitabuldi Division) Vilas Shende and Senior PI Vinod Godbole, with PSI Rajesh Lohi, Bhivapure, and constables Kamlesh, Pravin and Subhash Mangal forming the raiding team.
