Lakadganj police have exposed that the reported “pothole accident” leading to the death of 24-year-old Mahendra was fabricated by his family, with CCTV footage confirming he died after his motorcycle collided with another vehicle on the Pardi flyover—not from slipping into a water-filled pothole near the Deputy Signal railway crossing as initially alleged.
The family’s false account, filed at Lakadganj Police Station on September 17 and registered as FIR under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, prompted local residents to stage protests demanding action against civic authorities.
Under the supervision of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Navinchandra Reddy, Additional CP (North) Rajendra Dabhade, DCP Zone 3 Rahul Madne, and ACP Shweta Khade, investigators examined CCTV footage and questioned eyewitnesses, confirming the fatal collision occurred on the flyover itself. Bystanders had shifted Mahendra and his motorcycle to Ramdev Baba Hospital before he was taken to multiple hospitals and declared dead at Mayo Hospital shortly after midnight on September 17.
The investigation was carried out by Lakadganj officers Senior PI Hemant Chandewar, PI Sainath Ramod, PSI Sandeep Shinde, and a team of constables including Mahesh Jadhav, Hitesh Rathod, Prabhakar Mankar, Pradeep Gedam and Suraj Madavi. Police are continuing inquiries to determine the motive behind the misleading report and whether legal action will be taken for providing false information.
